About Marc

MARC NUÑEZ (he/him) was born in Switzerland and raised in California. He is a queer Filipinx-American, Queens-based Director, Choreographer, and Dancer. Professionally, Marc has danced for Rihanna, Todrick Hall, Donald McKayle's Etude Ensemble, Mike Esperanza's BARE Dance Company and Entity Contemporary Dance, as well as played roles in musicals including Cathy Rigby is Peter Pan (international tour), Disney's Newsies, Cabaret and The King and I. Marc has directed AEA productions of The Wizard of Oz and choreographed Sweeney Todd (Media Theatre). 

Marc is Founder and Director of Gotham Dance Theater (GDT) since 2015, a contemporary dance company. GDT produces dance with social purpose and represents the diverse cultures of New York City through dance theater. Themes covered are through Marc’s perspectives as a queer Filipinx-American immigrant, including barriers for immigrants, racism within the LGBTQ+ community, and the socio-economic inequities of death. GDT achievements: Queens Council on the Arts Grant Recipient (2022, 2021), City Artists Corps Grant Recipient (2021), Artist Residency at The Center at West Park (2021), Queensboro Dance Festival (2015-2021), Artist Residency at The Performance Project at The University Settlement (2017), Boundless in Brooklyn 48 Hour Dance Film Contest (2017 Winner and Audience Favorite).

Marc is currently a Teaching Artist for Mark Morris Dance Group, Marymount Manhattan College, and Battery Dance. Marc is also a popular dance and fitness instructor at multiple Crunch Fitness locations throughout New York City. Marc has also taught at Broadway Dance Center, Peridance Center, RIOULT Dance Center, Mae Mae Dance Studio, El Puente Center for Peace and Social Justice. Marc also created Sip 'n' Step Happy Hour Dance Class for All, a 1-hour open level dance class via Airbnb Online Experiences. Marc specializes in Hip-Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theater.

Marc holds a BFA in Dance Performance with Excellence in Choreography from the University of California, Irvine. Marc is a member of Actors Equity and represented by CESD Talent Agency.
